Bush Can't Let It Go

The visit apparently failed to move votes.

Bush's rare visit to the Senate failed to move Sessions or any other Republicans opposing the bipartisan compromise. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., who has always been cool to the bill, continued to blame Republicans for its collapse while making no overtures to bring it back.
