Obama Goes Mental
The rear of some defense contractors started to pucker yesterday when presidential hopeful Senator Barack Obama suggested unpaid taxes could support the hiring of more mental health professionals. Of course, collecting the taxes would require hiring more civil servants - requiring an increase in taxes to pay for the new positions. Does the math add up easily or are we expected to use a slide ruler? Slide to the right, slide to the left. We favor better treatment for our soldiers, but let's start by removing the main source of mental stress - the Bush War. Remove the soldiers from harm's way and suddenly the mental stress decreases. And you don't have to increase tax collection.

I do think Obama has a point though. The United States is facing severe shortages in critical areas, especially in nursing and care takers for the elderly. And a nation that consumes large amounts of Zolaf and Prozac is in desperate need of mental health processionals. Or better yet we need to address the things that make us stressed out. We need to re examine American values and culture. Be more loving than consumerist. And yes the Iraq war is the biggest cause of stress.
